Jan 19: “Common Mode Choke Design and Material Selection”

The common mode choke is a critical component in electromagnetic interference filtering. The magnetic material selected is commonly overlooked and is often not evaluated against application requirements.

This 30-minute webinar investigates the relationship between magnetic material properties and filtering performance. Multiple materials and winding configurations were tested across frequency and temperature. Test results are provided, analyzed, and compared with material property curves. The results provide a deeper understanding of magnetic materials and how they enable component optimization.

An audience Q&A follows the technical presentation, moderated by Bruce Bennett at SAE Media Group.

Speaker

Kevin E. Ender has approximately 18 years of magnetics design experience focusing on power magnetics. He is currently the Engineering Manager of Renco Electronics, a Standex Electronics Company, and is responsible for designing components, developing tools, and training new power magnetics engineers. Kevin received a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering in 2004 and a master’s degree in electrical engineering, with specialization in microelectronics, photonics, and materials, in 2005 from the University at Buffalo.
